Belgium is a European nation bordering France, Holland, Germany and Luxembourg. The capital of Belgium is Brussels which is also the headquarters of the European Union and NATO. Today Belgium is a liberal democracy.

Belgium has a French speaking part. French speakers are called Walloons. There is also a Flemish speaking part, and a small German speaking minority on its border with Germany. Flemish is a dialect of Dutch. There is frequently trouble between the two parts and they are culturally distinct, Flemings are Germanic rather than French. There were times when it looked possible that Belgium would be divided into two nations.

Belgian Politics is completely riven by the linguistic divide with almost all voters voting for parties on both language and ideological lines.
