A map of areas that have ever been a part of the British Empire.

The British Empire was the collection of Great Britain and its various colonies. It redirected its efforts to other areas of the world after the American Revolution.

The British Empire once spanned a whopping two thirds of the Earth's land mass. It was larger than the Mongol Empire covering 33.67 million km2 at its peak in 1922 and ruled far too many people without the consent of the governed though the present day unofficial United States empire may be bigger.

Still around

It was rumored to be still around when US rendition flights landed on Diego Garcia, one of Britain's only few remaining colonies. Today the Empire is limited to countries where the majority want to stay British.
