Crime is defined as a publicly dangerous action which, according to the corresponding laws, results in prosecution and punishment from the governing authorities. At least that is the definition in most regions.

Crimes are usually divided into several categories, which are grouped either by severity of the punishment or by area of the law (criminal / civil) responsible for it. In the United States, they are divided into infractions (depending on the state, certain crimes punishable with up to 6 months of in prison), misdemeanors (<1 year of prison) and felonies (everything else).
