The flag of Cyprus

Cyprus is a democratic country in the crossroads of Southern Europe and Western Asia. It is a part of the European Union. It lies on the island also called Cyprus, in the eastern Mediterranean.

Cyprus has a wonderful sunny climate. Unfortunately the people there don’t get on well together. The Christians who are ethnically Greek and the Muslims who are ethnically Turks have been fighting for generations.

Turkey invaded and partitioned the island. Greeks were driven out of the Turkish part of the isle and Northern Cyprus declared independence, but it is only recognised by Turkey. The European Union is trying, so far unsuccessfully, to find a just solution. There are problems with prostitution and human trafficking in the Greek and Turkish parts of Cyprus.
