James Danforth "Dan" Quayle was nominated as the Republican vice presidential candidate in 1988, and won together with George H.W. Bush, father of the shrub. His nomination is believed to have been a test to see whether dumb people were electable. It's one reason why Republicans thought Sarah Palin and Dubya would be good candidates. Dan Quayle was United States Vice President from 1989 to 1993. On Saturday Night Live he was often portrayed as a pre-adolescent boy.

George Carlin called him "stupid, full of s*** and f***in nuts".

Interesting facts about Dan Quayle

  • He is notable for being unable to spell potato. Which does not have an 'e' on the end.
  • He believes that Earth and Mars are in "roughly the same orbit", and that if there is liquid water on Mars, "that means there is oxygen, and that means we can breath." Now technically that would mean there was oxygen, but it would not mean we could breath, as the oxygen would be locked as a compound with hydrogen in water. Dan Quayle is a Republican, and Republicans don't always like science, so it shouldn't surprise you he didn't get it.
  • He holds the firm belief that, "For NASA, space is still a high priority."
  • He "did not live in the 20th Century."
  • With Dubya Sr. you got experience, and with him you got the future.
  • He dodged the draft. Liberals, like Al Gore, did not.
  • He got very real life pissy with fictional sitcom character Murphy Brown for being single and getting fictionally pregnant. Republican hack for hire and gay man obsessed Maggie Gallagher wrote an opinion piece for the New York Times agreeing with Quayle about Brown and also condemning The Golden Girls for living in a same-sex, non-sexual, multiple domestic partnership that she felt "eroded" the quality of her imaginary opposite sex marriage.
