The Faroe Islands are a constituent country of the Kingdom of Denmark occupying a group of islands in the North Atlantic Ocean. The islands are thought to have been settled by Celtic and Gaelic monks in the 6th century; then by the Norse in the 7th century. The islands have had home rule since 1948.
