Lithuania is a democratic Baltic country in the crossroads of Central and Northern Europe, a part of the European Union and NATO. Europe's geographical midpoint is located in Lithuania.

It borders the Baltic Sea to the west, Latvia to the north, Russian enclave (Kaliningrad Oblast) to the west, Poland to the southwest, Belarus to the east and Sweden (marine border) to the west.

Recent History

It was formerly an ancient state that was annexed to the USSR in early 20th century, and it has been an independent country since 1991.
