Montana was named by the Spanish because it is very mountainous. The capital of Montana is Helena. It was also a swing state from the 1990s until the early-2010s. Bill Clinton won Montana over Incumbent George H.W. Bush in 1992. Republican John McCain won Montana by a margin of 50 to 48 percent against Democrat Barack Obama.
