The No-Nothing Party was an American political Party that existed in the 1840's and 1850's and eventually became one of the founding wings of the modern Republican Party. The Party was first officially known as the Native American Party, and after 1855 as the American Party. They were known for their nativist, anti-Catholic and anti-immigrant and anti-Democrat views, and was founded by the membership of The Society of The Star Spangled Banner. The Society began as a secret nativist social club formed to oppose the immigration of German and Irish Catholics into what was at that time, a majority English and Scot Protestant Country, who's members were instructed to answer "I know nothing" when asked about the organization.
