A red dwarf.

Proxima Centauri is a red dwarf star and is the sun's closest neighbour. It is such a dim and weak star that even though it’s the suns closest neighbour it cannot be seen with the naked eye. Because Proxima Centauri is relatively near astronomers can study this red dwarf better than other more distant red dwarf stars. Proxima Centauri enables astronomers to understand the more distant red dwarf stars.

Proxima Centauri and other red dwarfs have a low mass for a star. Therefore nuclear reactions happen more slowly than in more massive, brighter stars and Proxima Centauri uses up its nuclear fuel more slowly giving it an estimated lifespan of four Trillion years in the main sequence stage. Proxima Centauri should still be shining when the sun is dead. If Proxima Centauri has a life sustaining planet it/they will probably be like Aurelia. Habitable planets are possible there. [1]

Astronomers suspect that Proxima Centauri is orbiting the Alpha Centauri system.
